250 Trees Heeled In For Winter
Western Power Distribution

Students from Penryn College near Falmouth had a busy day recently to ‘heel in’ 250 trees at the College.

The trees were donated by Western Power Distribution as part of a carbon off-setting initiative involving ten schools in Cornwall.

‘Green is Global’ was a three day international head teacher and student conference with its focus clearly on issues of sustainability for the planet.  It was the culmination of collaborative projects that have been taking place between partner schools across the world including such topics as the future of renewable energy, local food sources, recycling, waste and water use.

More than 150 student ambassadors, from over 10 countries attended the event held at the Eden Project, along with their head teachers, to share experiences and explore possible future solutions for a more sustainable way of life.

Andy Latham from Penryn College explains: “Our aim was to make the 3 day conference as carbon neutral as possible and planting 250 trees in 10 local schools is a positive contribution to this.  We have the space here at Penryn to heel in the trees until the other schools are ready to plant their trees in their school grounds. We are grateful to WPD for donating the trees and The Silvanus Trust working with The NHS Forest Project for facilitating this process.”
