One Raft, 8 Men 75 Miles on the River Wye
Western Power Distribution

Staff from Western Power Distribution in Brecon braved 75 miles of the River Wye on a raft to raise nearly £3,500 to help raise funds for the 3D Heart Scanner at  Morriston Hospital.

The team completed 75 miles over 3 days to pay tribute to a colleague, Geoff Price, who passed away recently, after suffering a heart attack.  Rafter Mark Probert from Western Power said “We have never done anything like this before and it was a great challenge. We also wanted to remember a colleague who passed away recently suffering from a heart attack. We would also like to thank all of our sponsors, together with the following organisations, who gave additional help and support: Western Power Distribution, Maesllwch Arms, Glasbury, Lakeside Caravan Park Llangorse, Wye Valley Canoes Glasbury , Co-Operative store, Brecon”

Raft captain Adrian Boyd said: “We had to practice before to prepare for the 75 miles. We were paddling for a total of 11 and half hours, camping by the side of the river each night.  It was difficult, but we all enjoyed it so much and we are looking forward to doing another one next year in memory of our great friend. ”

Local BHF Fundraising and Volunteer Manager Jayne Lewis said:  “We are delighted that the team undertook this great challenge and supported the BHF.

Heart and circulatory disease remains the number one killer of people in the UK.  Nine people will die prematurely every day in Wales from heart and circulatory disease. That is why the work of the BHF is vital and we rely on generous donations of time and money to continue our life-saving work” she added
