An artistic youngster from Barry who scooped the top prize in a competition to design a Christmas card for the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society has seen her winning design in print and on sale.

Fourteen year old Donna Thomas a pupil of St Richard Gwyn Catholic High School will see her card launched on the first day of the Royal Welsh Winter Fair on Monday 29th November at the showground in Builth Wells where it will be on sale.

Donna’s winning design was judged overall winner in the Children’s Art and Design competition sponsored by Western Power Distribution (WPD).   The youngster received a cash prize of £30 plus £100 for her school.

“I am so pleased to think that my design was chosen and it’s exciting to think that my card will be sent all over Wales, said Donna.

The competition attracted over 1,000 young artists from over forty schools from across Wales.  Pupils were invited to use their skill and imagination to design a painting or drawing illustrating the impact the festive season has on farming life.

Donna will be presented with a specially designed framed copy of her Christmas card at the Winter Fair by competition judge Karen Welch, who also works for WPD.

Karen explained: “We have also been delighted with the response to the competition, with over 1,000 entries from over 40 schools across Wales.  One of the highest number of entries for many years and the standard of entries was excellent.

“It was a difficult choice but the judges thought that her design stood out and really captured the spirit of Christmas on the Farm “said Karen.

The presentation to Donna Thomas will take place on Monday 29th November in the Royal Welsh Agricultural Shop located on the Showground.
