LG&E, KU send more than 200 employees, Kentucky-based contractors to Gulf Coast
Utilities will assist Entergy with restorations after Hurricane Isaac
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — As the Gulf Coast battles the effects from Hurricane Isaac, Louisville Gas and Electric and Kentucky Utilities sent 204 employees and Kentucky-based contractors this morning to help Entergy restore power.
The hurricane's high winds and slow progression have been leaving trails of debris across the Gulf states. Crews will report to Entergy to help restore power and repair damaged equipment, downed wires and other storm-related damage.
"For the last several days, we've been watching this event closely and communicating with utilities who anticipated their service territories would be impacted by Hurricane Isaac," said David Guy, director of System Restoration and Dispatch Operations for LG&E and KU.
"Our customers at home are always our top priority. Before releasing crews, we ensure we have sufficient resources in place to handle inclement weather and day-to-day business, such as emergency situations and maintenance, in our service territories," said Guy.
The team consists of veteran line technicians, team leaders and tree trimmers from locations across Kentucky to provide support in what could be a significant restoration event for the Gulf region.
These efforts are a result of LG&E and KU's participation in nationwide mutual assistance organizations, in which a collection of utility companies assist other utilities in times of natural disasters and crisis situations.
Crews will continue to restore power for Gulf Coast utilities until no longer needed and as long as weather patterns remain calm in LG&E and KU's service territory.
