An additional 4,300 backpacks will be made available at various school resource centers and community service organizations in Jefferson County and surrounding areas.
Friday, July 28, Backpack Assembly: Volunteers will begin stuffing backpacks with supplies at 4:30 p.m. at LG&E’s Broadway Office Complex, located at 820 W. Broadway.
Backpack Distribution Events: This year, to best serve those families in need of the supplies, LG&E will deliver backpacks direct to community partners who will each hold their own backpack distributions ahead of the start to the school year. Current plans are as follows:
- The Lord’s Kitchen – Backpacks will be distributed daily from Wednesday, August 2 until the first day of school, while supplies last. One backpack will be given per child on a first-come, first-served basis. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Supplies can be picked up behind the building located at 1811 Standard Ave.
- Feed the City – A single day backpack distribution will be held Saturday, Aug. 12 at 1100 S. 26th Street from 11 a.m. until supplies run out. One backpack will be given per child on a first-come, first-served basis. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
These backpack assembly and distribution events are part of annual companywide backpack distribution efforts organized by LG&E and its sister utility, Kentucky Utilities Company. Before students return to school, more than 13,000 backpacks will be distributed by employee volunteers and community partners during back-to-school events across Kentucky.
