"We make this contribution to aid the ongoing efforts in New York City on behalf of the employees, customers and shareowners of PPL Corporation," said William F. Hecht, chairman, president and chief executive officer of PPL. "We consider it an honor to join with millions of individuals across the country in helping the victims of this horrible attack. Truly, our recovery from this assault is bringing out the best in Americans."

Hecht said the $100,000 contribution to the Red Cross is in addition to the company's commitment to match PPL employee contributions (up to $25,000) to The September 11th Fund, which has been established by the United Way. PPL employees, Hecht said, already have donated more than $10,000 to that fund.

In addition, PPL employees continue to support their local blood drives, and some who are members of their local emergency response teams have volunteered at the disaster site in New York. "I am extremely proud of the compassion and sense of civic pride displayed by all our employees," Hecht said.

PPL Corporation, headquartered in Allentown, Pa., generates electricity at power plants in Pennsylvania, Maine and Montana; markets wholesale or retail energy in 42 U.S. states and Canada; and delivers electricity to nearly 6 million customers in Pennsylvania, the United Kingdom and Latin America.
