"The lighting of this candle, which normally occurs only at the holiday season, is a way for all of us at PPL to express our hope for a world in which peace triumphs over acts of violence," said PPL Corporation Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer, William F. Hecht.

The candle lighting is one of several ways PPL employees are expressing their sorrow and displaying their national pride in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks on America earlier this week.

"More than lives were lost through these attacks. We've all lost our long-standing sense of security on U.S. soil," Hecht said.

PPL employees around the world will remember the victims of this week's terrorist attacks with a moment of silence on Friday (9/14). At 1 p.m. EDT, PPL employees in Pennsylvania, Montana, Maine and Latin America will pause from their jobs and observe a moment of silence in honor of those who died in the attacks.

Also, PPL is collecting money from its employees worldwide wishing to donate money to the September 11th Fund, which was set up by the United Way and The New York Communty Trust to support long-term relief efforts. The company will match employee contributions up to $25,000.

"Like millions of other Americans, employees throughout our organization have been asking about ways they can help the victims and show their unity in an effort to cope with this tragedy," Hecht said. "Time and again, PPL employees have demonstrated that they will do whatever they can to help those in need. This week, we are all in need."

PPL Corporation (NYSE: PPL), headquartered in Allentown, Pa., generates electricity at power plants in Pennsylvania, Maine and Montana; markets wholesale or retail energy in 42 U.S. states and Canada; and delivers electricity to nearly 6 million customers in Pennsylvania, the United Kingdom and Latin America. The company employs more than 12,000 people worldwide.
