PPL Susquehanna Names New Vice President-Nuclear Operations

Robert A. Saccone, a 31-year veteran of PPL, has been named vice president-Nuclear Operations for the company's Susquehanna nuclear power plant.

Saccone will report to Britt McKinney, vice president-Nuclear Site Operations, and have overall responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the plant. He will be located at the Susquehanna plant.

"The leadership that Bob has displayed in the nuclear engineering and nuclear operations areas make him an ideal choice for this position," said Britt McKinney, vice president-Nuclear Site Operations. Saccone, who currently is general manager-Nuclear Engineering, will replace Richard Anderson, who has accepted the position of site vice president at the Perry Nuclear Station in Ohio. Saccone's appointment is effective Nov. 1.

Saccone started with PPL in 1973 as part of the fossil-fuel generation group and then joined the Susquehanna organization as an engineer during the startup and testing phase of the nuclear plant's construction.

Over the past 25 years, Saccone has held numerous engineering and management positions at Susquehanna. He was promoted to general manager- Nuclear Engineering in 2002.

He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from Clarkson University in Potsdam, N.Y.

Susquehanna is a two-unit, boiling water reactor with a generating capacity of 2,350 megawatts. Located in Luzerne County about seven miles north of Berwick, the plant is owned jointly by PPL Susquehanna LLC and Allegheny Electric Cooperative Inc. and is operated by PPL Susquehanna.
