BERWICK, Pa.

Unit 1 of PPL's Susquehanna nuclear power plant reconnected to the electrical transmission network late Tuesday (11/23) and will gradually increase power. The unit was shut down Nov. 19 for scheduled maintenance.

"We are performing routine start-up and testing activities to ensure that the maintenance completed will allow the safe and reliable return to full power," said Bob Saccone, vice president-Nuclear Operations. "The work done during this outage will help ensure that the unit is prepared to generate electricity throughout the peak winter heating months."

Unit 2 operated at full power during the repairs and has run consecutively for 582 days, which is a station record.

The Susquehanna plant, located in Luzerne County about seven miles north of Berwick, is owned jointly by PPL Susquehanna LLC and Allegheny Electric Cooperative Inc. and is operated by PPL Susquehanna.

PPL Susquehanna is one of PPL Corporation's generating facilities. Headquartered in Allentown, Pa., PPL Corporation (NYSE: PPL) controls more than 12,000 megawatts of generating capacity in the United States, sells energy in key U.S. markets and delivers electricity to nearly 5 million customers in Pennsylvania, the United Kingdom and Latin America.
