PPL Electric Utilities restores service to 56,000 customers, continues work to return power to additional 19,000

Situation:
PPL Electric Utilities crews and support personnel are continuing their work to restore power to thousands of customers following an early season snowstorm that dumped heavy, wet snow throughout portions of Northeastern Pennsylvania and spawned high winds elsewhere.

Crews battled difficult conditions throughout the day Tuesday and into the night. The storm resulted in more than 1,100 cases of damaged power lines and equipment throughout the company’s 29-county service territory. PPL Electric Utilities continued to receive outage calls well into Tuesday evening. The bulk of the damage and outages were in the Northeast — in Lackawanna, Wayne, Pike, Monroe and Luzerne counties.

PPL Electric Utilities has shifted hundreds of additional linemen and support personnel to the Northeast to assist efforts there.

Customers Restored:
56,000 as of 8 a.m. Wednesday (10/29)

Customers Without Power:
19,000 as of 8 a.m. Wednesday (10/29)

Number of Jobs Pending: 660

Estimated Restoration Time:
Small numbers of customers in the Lehigh Valley, Wilkes-Barre and central Pennsylvania may be without service until early Wednesday evening as some personnel and equipment from those regions support areas where widespread damage was reported. While most customers will have power restored sooner, it may be until Wednesday night until all customers in the Scranton area have service restored and Thursday evening in the Poconos.

Additional Information:
Customers with special needs should call PPL Electric Utilities’ toll-free number at 1-800-342-5775. Customers should stay away from downed wires and assume that any fallen wire is energized.
