Norman Wood Bridge Traffic Restrictions in Place as Holtwood Expansion Project Moves Forward
PPL Holtwood

Periodic traffic restrictions are in place until early September on the Route 372 Norman Wood Bridge across the Susquehanna River as workers perform blasting in the river below the bridge as part of the expansion project at PPL’s Holtwood hydroelectric plant.

Traffic lanes may be closed in both directions for about 15 minutes at the top of the hour periodically during daylight hours Monday through Saturday. Due to the variation in river flows that impact the work area, the specific hours of the lane closures will vary.

Flasher lights and signage have been installed to alert motorists about the temporary closures on the bridge, which is just downstream of the Holtwood Dam. There will be no blasting work at night or on Sundays.

The $440 million Holtwood expansion project, which will add 125 megawatts of clean, renewable electric generating capacity at the plant, will result in improvements to recreational facilities. They will include improved access for fishing, parking closer to the river, a new shoreline fishing pier and areas that can be accessed by people with physical limitations.

PPL Corporation (NYSE: PPL), headquartered in Allentown, Pa., through its affiliated companies, owns or controls about 19,000 megawatts of generating capacity in the United States, sells energy in key U.S. markets, and delivers electricity and natural gas to about 10 million customers in the United States and the United Kingdom.
