Energy Saving Festive Lights for Ferryside
Western Power Distribution

The village of Ferryside in Carmarthenshire will shine bright for the festive season with some new energy saving bulbs thanks to local electricity company Western Power Distribution.

At a time when we are all encouraged to reduce our carbon footprint and minimise our impact on the environment, the community want to enjoy the usual festive lights but reduce the energy consumption, so, Les Jones a member of St Ishmaels Community Council contacted WPD’s environment scheme ‘keen to be green’ to see if they could help.

Les said, “Ferryside was chosen to pilot an innovative project that aims to help communities reduce their carbon footprint and tackle climate change.  I thought it would be a good idea to look at ways we could reduce the impact of our Christmas lights but still create the usual spirit of the season we have enjoyed for many years and was delighted that WPD could support us.”

Tracy Carr, Community Liaison Officer for WPD commented: “Although this was an unusual request we wanted to contribute to the Villagers efforts to reduce their energy use but still be able to enjoy the local traditions not just this year but for many more years to come.”

To start the festive season Paul and Jean Griffiths, Ferry Cabin, will be providing mulled wine and mince pies during the switching on ceremony

The big ‘switch on’ will take place on Tuesday 23rd November at (6.00pm).
