PPL Electric Utilities

PPL Electric Utilities’ E-power® program and the Da Vinci Science Center are teaming up with General Electric to showcase some of the latest in energy-efficient lighting for area contractors, designers and others.

The GE 2012 Lighting Revolution Tour will be at the science center at 3145 Hamilton Blvd. Bypass in Allentown from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 27. Attendees can visit the exhibit, which features innovative lighting control systems, LED lighting, lighting products for refrigerated display cases and outdoor signage, and more.

In addition, PPL Electric Utilities’ E-power Solutions Team will be on-hand with information on rebate and incentive programs that can help utility customers save energy and money.

The event is free, but reservations are suggested. An RSVP can be made through the tour’s website at http://GELightingRevolutionTour.com. Visitors also can register for a chance to win an Apple iPad2 tablet.

“This is a great opportunity for a hands-on tour of some of the latest advancements in energy-efficient lighting,” said Thomas C. Stathos, director of Customer Programs and Services for PPL Electric Utilities. “With new federal light bulb standards taking effect this summer, it’s more important than ever to know what’s out there. About 13 percent of the country’s total electric consumption goes toward lighting, so energy-efficient lighting can have a big impact on electricity use.”

E-power savings include fixed rebates on qualifying lighting upgrades and Direct Discount Service, which covers up to 75 percent of qualifying lighting or refrigeration projects for certain small-business customers. Visit www.pplelectric.com/e-power for more information.

The 2011 GE Lighting Revolution Tour reached 47 U.S. and Canadian cities and hosted nearly 10,000 visitors. This year’s tour will visit 57 cities.

“The Da Vinci Science Center is proud to be able to assist in bringing the GE Lighting Revolution Tour to the Lehigh Valley,” said Troy A. Thrash, the center’s executive director and chief executive officer. “Promoting energy efficiency in the community is certainly worthwhile. Science and technology are making great strides in energy efficiency, and I would encourage local businesses to stop by.”
