BERWICK, Pa., March 1, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Operators at PPL's Susquehanna nuclear power plant disconnected the Unit 2 reactor from the electrical grid early Saturday (3/1) to perform a planned inspection of turbine blades.

While the plant currently does not have any indications of turbine blade cracking, Susquehanna has been working closely with the turbine manufacturer to resolve turbine blade issues, and any inspection indications will be addressed proactively during this shutdown.

Unit 1 continues to operate at full power.

The Susquehanna plant, located in Luzerne County about seven miles north of Berwick, is owned jointly by PPL Susquehanna LLC and Allegheny Electric Cooperative Inc. and is operated by PPL Susquehanna.
