Allentown, Pa. (Sept. 15, 2015) -- A team of more than 60 PPL employees volunteered at Camelot for Children and the Boys and Girls Club in Allentown as part of United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley’s annual Day of Caring event on Sept. 10. Their effort helped make these facilities safer and more secure places for children to play, learn and grow. 

“Day of Caring is such a worthwhile effort,” said Mike McGrail, deputy general counsel and vice president of PPL Corporation. “So many agencies need our help, and this is our opportunity to give our time and really help out these agencies that cannot afford to hire out to do these kinds of projects.”

PPL Corporation, a strong contributor to the United Way for decades, is committed to partnering with nonprofit organizations to strengthen the communities where the company lives and works. Involvement with United Way’s Day of Caring is about collaboration with PPL’s co-workers, peers and community organizations to make a real impact in a short amount of time. 

“We are a staff of two at the Camelot house,” said Chris Cleaver, executive director of Camelot for Children. “The volunteers will accomplish today what would have taken us weeks.” 

PPL employees completed a summer cleanup and prepared for fall at Camelot for Children, a nonprofit organization that provides opportunities for disabled, handicapped and terminally ill children to socialize, interact and develop their physical and mental abilities.  

For some PPL employees, volunteering their time is a way to say thank you to agencies that made an impact on their lives. At the Boys and Girls Club in Allentown where employees were painting and replacing ceiling tiles, Don Sinsky, relay and protection technician said, “As a child I went to Camp Horseshoe, then associated with the Boys and Girls Club, and I never forgot my time there.  It means a lot to be able to give back now to the Boys and Girls Club. I know the kids really benefit from this.”
