Lincolnshire village investment improves sky line

A $397,000 (£300,000) investment to remove overhead power lines has significantly improved the sky line in a north Lincolnshire village.
Western Power Distribution (WPD), the electricity distributor for the region, is committed to investing in its network to improve supply reliability and customer service levels, and will invest around $9 billion (£7 billion) between 2015 and 2023.
This latest initiative involved replacing one mile (one and a half kilometres) of low voltage overhead lines with underground cables, and nearly 200 individual services in the village of Martin, near Lincoln.
It took 10 weeks to complete and included liaison with Lincoln County Council to arrange for street lights to be replaced, as these were attached to some electricity poles. They were replaced with new LED lights and columns.
Mark Hutchinson, WPD’s Distribution Manager for the area said: “We took care to keep everyone in the village up to date with what we were doing, liaising with all the villagers to ensure the work went smoothly.”
WPD’s investment will help to further safeguard supply reliability to around 195 customers in Martin and it will also better accommodate any increased demands placed on the power network in the future.
“It ensures that we can provide a high level of service to these areas in the long term by improving the infrastructure and security of our electricity network,” added Mark.
