Tree-mendous effort by Melton teammates
Western Power Distribution

Colleagues from Western Power Distribution’s (WPD) Melton team in Lincolnshire built and decorated a very special Christmas tree this year.

The “pylon tree” was adorned with WPD-related decorations as well as LED lights and displayed at St. Mary’s Parish Church as part of the Melton Mowbray Christmas Tree Festival.

WPD Fitter Phil Saunders, who constructed the “tree” in his home garage, said: “The design is based on an old-fashioned 33kV tower. It’s made from plywood and painted silver, and it took about three weeks to make in my spare time.”

The WPD tree joined around 1,200 others at the festival. Trees were decorated by local schools, businesses and community groups, in what is thought to be one of the biggest Christmas tree festivals in the country.

Following the festival, the tree will be displayed at WPD’s Grantham office.
