(Elizabethtown, Ky.) — Centrally located along Interstate 65 and the Bluegrass and Western Kentucky Parkways, Elizabethtown’s blazing a new path for area drivers: It’s home to the newest electric vehicle charging station offered by Kentucky Utilities Company and providing a much-needed service for EV drivers. 

The charging station, located at 201 S. Main St. in the Quince lot, is the ninth publicly-accessible station launched across the Commonwealth by KU and its sister Louisville Gas and Electric Company through their Electric Vehicle Charging Station Program. 

“We’re excited to offer this service in Elizabethtown because it provides another publicly-accessible option for EV drivers, which helps to ease charging anxiety between charging locations,” said David Huff, director of Energy Efficiency and Emerging Technologies for KU and LG&E. “Offering this program gives us an opportunity to learn more about electric vehicle technology and the interests and needs of EV drivers.” 

“Our downtown revitalization efforts are progressing each day,” said Mayor Edna Berger. “We are very excited to offer this convenience to our local and visiting EV drivers.”

Drivers who use the charging stations will pay an hourly fee. While exact fees and taxes will vary depending on the location of each station, the average rate is about $3 per hour.

This station can accommodate charging two vehicles at one time, has digital display screens, and quick-pay options for a low effort customer experience.

Through the utilities’ program, eligible customers also can host electric vehicle charging stations at their locations for public or private use. Yum! Brands became the first commercial customer to host charging stations at its Louisville campus for its employees, followed by Louisville’s newest Hilton Garden Inn.
