At 2:30 p.m., customers used an estimated 6,754 megawatts of electricity, breaking the summer record of 6,702 megawatts set on July 23. The all-time electricity use record for PPL Electric Utilities is 6,928 megawatts set on Jan. 17, 2000.

Despite the prolonged heat wave this week that kept daytime temperatures in the 90s, PPL Electric Utilities has continued to provide reliable electric delivery service.

"We maintain and operate power lines and equipment for these kinds of weather conditions so customers have the reliable electric delivery service they expect for air conditioning and other uses," said Doug Myers, PPL's supervisor of Transmission & Distribution Operations.

PPL Electric Utilities provides electricity delivery service to 1.3 million customers in 29 counties of eastern and central Pennsylvania.

PPL Electric Utilities Corporation is a subsidiary of PPL Corporation. Headquartered in Allentown, Pa., PPL Corporation controls nearly 11,500 megawatts of generating capacity in the United States, sells energy in key U.S. markets, and delivers electricity to nearly 6 million customers in Pennsylvania, the United Kingdom and Latin America.
