Terms of the agreement will not be released until the union has had a chance to discuss the settlement with its members. Members will vote by mail over the next several weeks.
"This contract will be an important step toward ensuring PPL's competitiveness in coming years," said Ron Schwarz, PPL's vice president-Human Resources.
"We're pleased to have reached this tentative agreement, which will help the company continue to grow so that our members can prosper with the company," said Ron Tomasko, president and financial secretary of Local 1600. Local 1600 represents more than 4,000 PPL employees at company operations in Pennsylvania. It is the largest of the company's labor unions and the largest IBEW local in Pennsylvania. The previous four-year labor agreement expired at midnight Sunday (5/12). Local 1600 has agreed to continue working on a day-by-day basis until the new agreement is ratified.
