PPL's Chief Nuclear Officer Retires; Vice President-Nuclear Site Operations Named Successor

ALLENTOWN, Pa.
James H. Miller, president of PPL Generation, announced Friday (5/10) that Robert G. Byram, PPL's chief nuclear officer since 1997, is retiring from the company.

Miller also announced that Bryce L. Shriver, who has served as vice president-Nuclear Site Operations at PPL's Susquehanna plant since 2000, will become senior vice president and chief nuclear officer, effective May 17.
"All of us at PPL wish Bob all the best in his retirement," said Miller. "He has made important contributions to the success of the company in a variety of positions and locations throughout his 25-year PPL career."
Byram began his career at PPL's Brunner Island plant and also worked in a number of positions at the Martins Creek and Susquehanna plants before being named superintendent of Susquehanna in 1987. He was named vice president of Nuclear Operations in 1990 and became senior vice president of Nuclear three years later.
Shriver came to PPL Susquehanna as plant general manager in 1999. Prior to joining PPL, Shriver held a variety of nuclear positions at Virginia Power, including director-Corporate Nuclear Safety and manager of Operations and Maintenance at the Surry Power Station.

Bryce will play an essential role in our continuing efforts to make the Susquehanna plant one of the safest and most productive nuclear plants in the nation," said Miller.
Prior to his work with energy companies, Shriver served as director of the nuclear reactor facility at the University of Virginia. He also was a nuclear power engineer with the U.S. Navy, assigned to the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission's Division of Naval Reactors.
Shriver earned bachelor and Ph.D. degrees in metallurgical engineering and a master's of science degree in nuclear engineering from the University of Missouri at Rolla. He also earned a master's in business administration from Averett College in Danville, Va.
In his new position, Shriver will report to Miller and will be located at the Susquehanna nuclear plant in Berwick, Pa.
The two-unit plant, located about seven miles north of Berwick, is owned jointly by PPL Susquehanna LLC and Allegheny Electric Cooperative Inc. and is operated by PPL Susquehanna.
