Storm restoration efforts continue for PPL Electric Utilities

Storm restoration efforts will continue through Sunday (3/14) throughout PPL Electric Utilities’ service area due to damage inflicted by today’s heavy rain and high winds.

As of 8 p.m., about 23,160 customers throughout the company’s service area remained without power. Work crews made steady progress restoring service during the day, but periods of increasingly difficult weather in the evening led to additional outages. PPL Electric Utilities serves 1.4 million customers in eastern and central Pennsylvania.

High winds and periods of heavy rain were expected to continue into late Saturday night, creating the potential for additional service interruptions. PPL Electric Utilities estimates restoration efforts will continue throughout Sunday, with the earliest areas being restored by noon and the latest by 8 p.m.

The hardest-hit areas as of Saturday night included Bucks, Lehigh, Monroe, Montgomery and Northampton counties. The longest-lasting outages will be given priority in restoration efforts.

“Our experienced crews have been working hard in poor weather conditions to meet the challenges of this storm, and that effort will continue Sunday,” said Tom Stathos, PPL Electric Utilities’ director of customer programs and services. “We are dispatching all available crews and contractors so our customers can be returned to service as quickly as possible. We anticipate that improved weather conditions on Sunday will help our efforts to restore service to all customers.”

Because of the wide geographic reach of the storm, utilities in Pennsylvania and throughout the mid-Atlantic region have not been able to provide mutual aid, Stathos added.

Repair crews were able to restore service to more than 25,500 customers as of 8 p.m. Saturday.

  • Customers in Bucks and Montgomery counties can obtain free ice or water at these area grocery stores:
Giant Food Stores, 1153 N. Fifth St., Perkasie
  • Clemens Family Markets, 1465 W. Broad St., Quakertown
    • Redner’s Warehouse Markets, 701 South Westend Blvd., Quakertown

PPL Electric Utilities may make that service available in other geographic areas depending on conditions Sunday. The utility provides ice and water to customers left without service for extended periods of time following storms.
