PPL Construction Project to Affect Route 209 Traffic Near Jim Thorpe
New Gas Line Being Installed to Increase Capacity, Maintain Reliability

PPL Gas Utilities is installing 870 feet of new gas main along a portion of Route 209 leading into Jim Thorpe. Beginning today (10/17), the construction project will limit traffic between the intersection of West Broadway and the top of Mansion House Hill to one lane from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.

Traffic will be directed by flag holders. Motorists are urged to slow down and use caution in the work zones.

“The new gas main will improve our ability to meet demand in Jim Thorpe,” said Derrick Rubin, PPL Gas Utilities operations supervisor.

“This project is one of many under way across our more than 3,500 miles of pipeline,” he said. “It’s part of our ongoing commitment to maintaining and improving our delivery system.”

Construction of the new gas main began Oct. 10 and is expected to continue through mid-November. Lane restrictions are anticipated for the duration of the project.

PPL Gas Utilities, a subsidiary of PPL Corporation (NYSE: PPL), provides natural gas delivery service to 76,000 homes and businesses in 34 Pennsylvania counties and a small portion of Maryland.
