PPL announced today that it has been recognized as a Best Place to Work for LGBTQ Equality. The company received a perfect score of 100% on the Human Rights Campaign Foundation's Corporate Equality Index, a national benchmarking survey and report on corporate policies and practices relating to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer workplace equality.
PPL earned the designation as a 2020 Best Place to Work for LGBTQ Equality for its LGBTQ-related policies and practices, including non-discrimination workplace protections, domestic partner benefits, transgender-inclusive health care benefits, family-friendly leave policies, competency programs and public engagement with the LGBTQ community.
“It’s not just the policies that make PPL inclusive, it’s the feeling of acceptance and mutual respect that PPL employees have for one another,” said Kristine Maciolek Small, director of Diversity and Inclusion and Talent Management at PPL. “Our employees are courageous change agents fueling discussions, activities and events that build that inclusive culture.”
For example, in October 2019, FUSE, PPL’s LGBTQ business resource group, held its first Str8 Talk panel discussion. FUSE members partnered with the Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce’s LGBTQ Council and Olympus to bring together panel members representing each aspect of the LGBTQ acronym. Panel members shared their truths and openly discussed the issues impacting LGBTQ individuals in the community, in the workplace and in their personal lives.
“FUSE’s efforts are about raising awareness of others’ unique perspectives and experiences and sending a clear message that PPL is a safe space where individuals can bring their whole selves to work and life,” said Kathleen Oswalt, executive assistant and president of FUSE. “We’re proud of the progress we’ve made at PPL on LGBTQ issues, and we’re committed to building an even more inclusive work environment moving forward.”
This is the fourth consecutive year PPL has received a perfect score on the Corporate Equality Index.
