A $3 million investment to improve electric service reliability in Moore Township, Northampton County, is now complete. 

The project — which included building a new substation at Delps and Mink roads, connecting that substation to a nearby transmission line, and making distribution power line improvements — was finalized last week.

The area around the new substation in the northwestern part of the township was formerly served from the utility’s Northampton substation, meaning outages anywhere between Northampton and Moore could have potentially interrupted customers for long periods of time until repairs were made.

With the new substation and related improvements, PPL Electric Utilities will be able to serve customers in the area from either the new substation or the existing Northampton substation.

“This investment will pay dividends in increased reliability for customers in Moore Township,” said Melinda Stumpf, PPL regional community relations director. “It’s also part of PPL Electric Utilities’ larger plan to invest approximately $3.4 billion to upgrade its infrastructure from 2011-15. Our mission continues to be to provide the safe and reliable electric service our customers have come to expect.”
