More than 2,400 children in central and eastern Pennsylvania submitted their creative suggestions on how to save energy to the PPL Electric Utilities 2012 THINK! ENERGY with E-POWER® Bright Ideas poster contest.

PPL Electric Utilities announced the 12 winners Thursday (5/24).

The contest encouraged students, teachers and families to make even small changes in energy use that can have a big impact on energy savings. It was developed by PPL Electric Utilities as part of its Earth Day activities and implemented in schools in concert with the National Energy Foundation.

“One of our goals is to educate consumers, including students and their families, about energy efficiency,” said Natalie Westring, customer programs specialist at PPL Electric Utilities. “This contest encourages children to think creatively about how they can save energy, and we’re pleased so many students participated this year.”

The contest was open to students in kindergarten through eighth grade living within PPL Electric Utilities’ 29-county service area. A panel of judges comprising PPL employees and NEF educators chose a winner for each grade and a grand-prize winner in grade categories K-2, 3-5 and 6-8. Winners were chosen based on effective communication of the energy efficiency theme and the visual presentation of that idea.
