Security officers at the Susquehanna nuclear power plant will be participating in planned security-related drills this week. The drills are conducted by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission as part of its independent oversight of nuclear power plants. Residents near the power plant may hear simulated firing noises related to the drill.

“We hold different types of drills throughout the year as part of our commitment to ensuring the safety and protection of the plant,” said Joseph J. Scopelliti, community relations manager for the Susquehanna plant. “The drills we’re holding this week are part of the plant’s extensive emergency planning program that keeps us well-prepared to respond to a potential event.”

The Susquehanna plant, located in Luzerne County about seven miles north of Berwick, is owned jointly by PPL Susquehanna LLC and Allegheny Electric Cooperative Inc. and is operated by PPL Susquehanna LLC.
