Electricity Linesmen Complete 48-Hour Pole Top Challenge for Children In Need
Western Power Distribution
WPD Linesmen Jason Bray and Mike Clement scale the heights for Children In Need.

Electricity linesmen Jason Bray and Mike Clement from Western Power Distribution (WPD) have raised over £3,000 by taking part in a gruelling 48 hour pole top challenge.

Braving the terrible weather conditions, the duo harnessed themselves to a platform at the top of a 14 metre wooden pole which had been erected outside WPD’s Swansea Area office at Ffynnon Menter, Phoenix Way on the Swansea Enterprise Park.

Explained Jason: “This is the toughest challenge we’ve ever done but the support from our families, friends and colleagues has been tremendous.  People have visited us at all times of day and night to drop off food, hot drinks and extra warm layers and to have a chat and drop some change into our collection pots.

“We have also had fantastic support from some surprise visitors.  Celebrity chef, Stephen Terry from the Hardwick at Abergavenny cooked us a gourmet Welsh breakfast, pop group STEPS sang to us from an open top bus, Britain’s Got Talent finalists Nu Sxool performed their street dancing act and members from local band, Best Supporting Actors, entertained us with some great acoustic covers.

“We are extremely grateful to everyone who supported us, including WPD who gave us the time and equipment to do this and contributed towards the total figure raised.”

Highlights from the challenge are due to be shown on BBC 1’s One Show on Friday 16th November.
