Turn Old Fridge Into Holiday Cash with PPL Recycling Incentive Now at $50
Incentive for Getting Rid of Inefficient Refrigerators, Freezers Increased to $50 Through December

PPL Electric Utilities’ customers now have even more incentive to turn their old, inefficient refrigerators and freezers into holiday cash with a limited-time boost to the incentive for participating in its appliance recycling program.

The utility is raising its incentive from $35 to $50 for November and December to encourage customers to recycle old, energy-wasting refrigerators and freezers. In addition to the incentive, getting rid of an outdated refrigerator or freezer can save customers up to $150 per year on their electric bill and that also can help offset the higher cost of heating homes during cold winter months.

To participate in the E-power® appliance recycling program, PPL Electric Utilities customers can schedule a free pick-up at their home by calling 1-877-270-3522, or by visiting pplelectric.com/recycle. The program is limited to the removal of two units per household each calendar year. Refrigerators or freezers to be recycled must be in working order and between 10 and 30 cubic feet — standard size for most units.

“If you act now, you can take advantage of this limited time offer on the increased $50 incentive. But the energy savings advantages are unlimited when you can do without keeping an older, secondary refrigerator or freezer running in the garage or basement,” said Thomas C. Stathos, director of Customer Programs and Services for PPL Electric Utilities.

Units picked up through the program are transported to an appliance recycling facility operated by JACO Environmental in Hatfield, Montgomery County. JACO safely removes hazardous materials from the old energy-guzzlers, reclaiming 95 percent of the materials in the appliances for reuse in manufacturing new products. Even the foam insulation is safely incinerated to generate electricity.

PPL Electric Utilities, a subsidiary of PPL Corporation, provides electricity delivery services to about 1.4 million customers in Pennsylvania. It has consistently ranked among the best companies for customer service in the United States. More information is available at pplelectric.com.
