#GivingTuesday: LG&E, KU Giving Campaign Pledges More Than $1.6 Million to Kentucky Nonprofit Organizations
Employee Participation Rate Twice National Average; 27 Charities Benefit

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Although "Giving Tuesday" is a new movement that encourages charitable giving across the nation, for Louisville Gas and Electric Company and Kentucky Utilities Company employees, giving back to the communities where they live and work is a long-held tradition.

Today, LG&E and KU announced the results of the utilities' annual charitable giving campaign, called Power of One. For the sixth year in a row, employee pledges to nonprofit organizations across the utilities' service territory exceeded more than $1 million.

With additional contributions from the LG&E and KU Foundation, the companies' overall total reached $1.6 million again this year.

More than 70 percent of LG&E and KU employees participate in the Power of One — a participation rate that is more than twice the national average for employee charitable giving campaigns.

The continued success of LG&E and KU's annual charitable giving effort means that once again, more than 27 nonprofit organizations across the state will start the New Year with added financial security and the ability to assist more Kentucky families with essential programs and services.

Since 2005, LG&E and KU's employee giving campaign has raised more than $12 million through payroll deductions, event fundraisers, direct-to-charity donations and foundation support.
