£8m Investment for Burton Power Network
Western Power Distribution

An £8 million project to safeguard power supplies to local homes and businesses has been completed in Burton-on-Trent.

Western Power Distribution (WPD), the electricity distributor for the Midlands region, is committed to investing in its network to further improve supply reliability and customer service levels.

This new initiative involves it upgrading equipment in a major substation, which supplies power to 48,000 customers in Burton, Hatton, Bretby, Woodville, Marchington and the surrounding areas.

The investment is also designed to better accommodate any increased demands placed on the power network in the future for additional developments.

WPD’s Projects Distribution Manager Patrick Booth said: “It ensures that we can provide a high level of service to these areas in the long term by improving the infrastructure and security of our electricity network.”

The work, which took two years to complete, forms part of WPD’s commitment to provide a consistently high level of service to customers. It is investing around £2 billion on its electricity network between 2010 and 2015.
