PPL EnergyPlus® to Provide Electricity Supply to SEPTA

ALLENTOWN, Pa., Oct. 22, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Already powering such Philadelphia landmarks as PPL Park and the Reading Terminal Market, PPL EnergyPlus will soon play an important role in another area of Philly life.

The company has added the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) to the growing list of southeastern Pennsylvania institutions, businesses and residents it serves, entering into a three-year contract to provide electricity supply to the Authority beginning in December.

According to SEPTA, the contract is expected to trim its electricity costs by $4 million annually, saving taxpayers money and enabling SEPTA to continue to provide cost-effective service for its customers.

"We take pride in building lasting relationships with those we serve, in understanding their needs, and in tailoring a solution that's right for them," said Joel Cook, vice president-Retail Marketing and Western Trading for PPL EnergyPlus. "We're pleased to be able to support SEPTA in this role and to play an even bigger role in powering Philadelphia life."

The three-year contract with PPL EnergyPlus will include propulsion power for the Broad Street Line subway, the Market-Frankford Line subway/elevated, the Norristown High Speed Line, the Media and Sharon Hill Trolley lines (routes 101 and 102), all six of SEPTA's City Division trolley routes, and a portion of SEPTA's Regional Rail. Also included in the contract are SEPTA's smaller GS (General Service) and HT (High Tension) accounts.
