Local Nonprofit Agencies Start 2015 With More Than $1.7 Million
LG&E and KU giving campaign will benefit 26 agencies and their affiliate organizations

(LOUISVILLE, Ky.) – Many local nonprofit organizations will start the New Year assisting more families and residents in need with continued support from employees of Louisville Gas and Electric Company and Kentucky Utilities Company.

Voluntary employee donations and financial support from the LG&E and KU Foundation reached more than $1.7 million during the company’s 2014 annual giving campaign known as Power of One. These funds are allocated to 26 nonprofit organizations — reaching all 120 counties across Kentucky, as well as parts of Indiana and Virginia — to support much-needed programs and services in 2015.

Louisville-based nonprofit organizations Fund for the Arts, Metro United Way and WHAS Crusade for Children, along with United Ways across the KU service territory — from Ghent to Paducah to Harlan — will receive funding through the Power of One.

“We’re so proud of our employees who rally behind their communities by giving their time, donating resources and generously supporting our annual Power of One campaign,” said Greg Thomas, vice president of Electric Distribution for LG&E and KU, and co-chair of the 2014 Power of One campaign.

“More money means more funding for meals, beds, education, hospital equipment, support groups and thousands of other much-needed items and programs for local organizations across the service territories,” said Thomas.

Nearly 70 percent of LG&E and KU employees participate in the campaign through payroll deduction — more than twice the national average for employee participation in charitable giving.

Since 2005, the employee-driven campaign has raised nearly $17 million through payroll deductions, event fundraisers, direct-to-charity donations and support from the LG&E and KU Foundation.
