Students receive extra support for the school year through LG&E and KU Foundation scholarship
Foundation awards $12,000 in scholarships to 10 students across Kentucky

(LOUISVILLE, Ky.) – With school now in session for area college students, classes aren’t the only thing kicking into high gear. Between lodging, books, supplies and other necessities, expenses often ramp up quickly as well. To help students manage some of that burden, the LG&E and KU Foundation is awarding scholarships, for the 19th year in a row, to 10 outstanding area students. The program, which provides $1,200 in financial assistance for up to four years, is available to the children of employees of LG&E and KU Energy LLC, and is intended to be used toward tuition, books, fees, supplies and classroom equipment.

“The LG&E and KU Foundation scholarships are part of our company’s commitment to providing students every opportunity to succeed and achieve their academic goals,” said Angie Evans, director of LG&E and KU Corporate Responsibility and Community Affairs. “We are honored to support the children of our employees by helping with their college expenses.”

Independent judges from the Scholarship America Scholarship Selection Committee chose the recipients based on academic skills, school and community activities, leadership abilities, and communications skills demonstrated by each student’s personal statements. To qualify, students must currently be enrolled or plan to enroll full time in an undergraduate degree program at an accredited college or university. Students must have a high school cumulative GPA of 3.0 and must maintain a 3.0 while attending a college or university.
