PPL Electric Utilities Storm Restoration Update
Area restoration times released; crews working around the clock

ALLENTOWN, Pa. (March 3, 2018) — About 3,000 PPL Electric Utilities workers, contractors and support personnel are working around the clock to restore power knocked out by Friday’s nor’easter, a storm that will rank among the 10 most damaging in PPL’s service area.

As of 1 p.m. Saturday (3/3), there were about 2,000 repair locations affecting 98,000 customers. Power has been restored to about 75,000 customers since the storm hit.

Included among line workers are 100 contractors provided through PPL’s sister utilities in Kentucky – Louisville Gas & Electric and Kentucky Utilities. In addition, we expect another 250 line workers to arrive over the next 48 hours from utilities as far away as Florida, Texas, Ohio and Alabama.

Our hardest hit areas include the Poconos and Lehigh Valley regions as well as northern Bucks and Montgomery Counties. We continue to work with state agencies to clear roads and improve access to work areas.

We have released the following estimated restoration times for various regions of our service territory. It is important to note that most customers in these areas will have power restored well in advance of the stated times.

  • Lehigh Valley, Poconos, Northeast Pennsylvania (including Scranton area), and Bucks and Montgomery counties – 11 p.m. Wednesday, March 7.
  • Susquehanna Valley (Lock Haven/Bloomsburg) and Lancaster County – 11 p.m. Sunday, March 4.
  • Harrisburg Area – 5 p.m. Sunday, March 4.
  • Hazleton/Wilkes-Barre region and Schuylkill County – 11 p.m. Monday, March 5.

Restoration progress can be followed though our outage center at pplelectric.com/outage.
