PPL Electric Utilities environmental scholarships awarded to seven high school seniors
Winners are poised to make a positive difference in the world

ALLENTOWN, Pa. (July 13,  2020) – Seven high school seniors were recently selected as winners of the PPL Electric Utilities Future Environmental Leaders Scholarship.

Each will receive $2,000 toward their studies at schools ranging from Penn State University to the Pennsylvania College of Technology to Nova Southeastern University.

PPL introduced its Future Environmental Leaders Scholarship in 2019 to assist high school seniors within its service area in pursuing an environmentally-related career. PPL divided its service territory into seven geographic regions and selected one winner from each region.

Following are this year’s winners, their chosen colleges and majors:

• Ethan T. Davies (Freedom High School); Penn State University; Environmental System Engineering (Region: Northampton, Lehigh, Bucks and Montgomery counties)
• Kayla Lincalis (Hazleton Area Academy of Sciences); Bucknell University; Environmental Engineering (Region: Carbon, Schuylkill and Luzerne counties)
• Lenka M. Platt (Halifax High School); Chatham University; Biology and Sustainability (Region: Dauphin, York and Cumberland counties)
• Ann M. Birmingham (Berks Catholic High School); Nova Southeastern University; Marine Biology (Region: Lancaster and Berks counties)
• Christian R. Dury (Honesdale High School); Penn State University; Chemical Engineering (Region: Lackawanna, Monroe, Pike, Wayne, Susquehanna and Wyoming counties)
• Rachel T. Soccio (Newport High School); Penn State University; Veterinary and Biomedical Science (Region: Union, Snyder, Juniata, Perry and Northumberland counties)
• Bryndil L. Kemler (Central Columbia Senior High School); Pennsylvania College of Technology; Surveying Technology (Region: Clinton, Lycoming, Columbia and Montour counties)


As part of the scholarship application, students were required to write a short essay on why they were pursuing an environmentally-related field.
