Saturday morning (4/5) came early for 21 PPL line crews who were on the road to Rochester, N.Y., before sunrise. The crews are part of an effort to restore electrical power to more than 50,000 Rochester Gas and Electric customers who lost service as the result of a Friday evening ice storm.

"PPL crews are known for their ability to provide safe and efficient service during times of crisis," said Bernie Bujnowski, resource manager for PPL Electric Utilities. "These highly trained professionals will help quickly restore power to customers during this unseasonably cold weather."

Bujnowski said sharing crews during emergency conditions is a common practice in the utility industry. The crews will likely be on the road for the next five to seven days.

PPL Electric Utilities Corporation is a subsidiary of PPL Corporation. Headquartered in Allentown, Pa., PPL Corporation (NYSE: PPL) controls about 11,500 megawatts of generating capacity in the United States, sells energy in key U.S. markets and delivers electricity to customers in Pennsylvania, the United Kingdom and Latin America.
