PPL Electric Utilities Continues Storm Repairs; Service Restored to 176,000 Customers

ALLENTOWN, Pa.

Situation: Since Monday (7/21) at 4 p.m. when severe thunderstorms began crossing central and eastern Pennsylvania, PPL Electric Utilities has restored power to 176,000 customers. Work is continuing around the clock.

PPL has moved company crews to assist in places that were hit harder by the storms and also is being assisted by crews from Dominion Virginia Power and contractor crews from Pepco in Washington, D.C. Local electrical contractors and tree-trimming companies also are helping.

Additional thunderstorms that struck the company's Lehigh Valley service area Tuesday evening (7/22) caused power outages for about 2,000 PPL Electric Utilities customers.

  Customers Restored:
  About 176,000 as of 9 p.m. Tuesday (7/22)

  Customers without Power:
  About 21,000 as of 9 p.m. Tuesday (7/22)

  Affected Areas:

Hardest hit areas in Monday night's storms were Lackawanna, Wayne and Pike counties in northeastern Pennsylvania and Columbia, Montour and Northumberland counties in central Pennsylvania.

Number of Jobs Pending:

Under 600 repair jobs remained to be done as of 9 p.m. Tuesday (7/22).
