PPL Electric Utilities' Customers Set Summer Record for Electricity Use

ALLENTOWN, Pa.

Customers of PPL Electric Utilities set a summer record for electricity use Monday afternoon (7/18).

Between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m., customers used an estimated 6,963 megawatt- hours of electricity, breaking the previous summer record of 6,906 megawatt- hours set on Aug. 14, 2002. The all-time electricity use record for PPL Electric Utilities is 7,274 megawatt-hours set Dec. 20, 2004.

Throughout the hot, humid days of July, PPL Electric Utilities has continued to provide reliable electric delivery service.

"Customers count on their electric service to cope with the heat. We maintain and operate our power lines and equipment to deliver power when people need it most," said David G. Cole, general manager of Asset Management for PPL Electric Utilities.

PJM Interconnection, which coordinates electric generation and the high- voltage electric power system in 13 states and the District of Columbia, reports that it has enough electric generation and reserves to deliver all the electricity customers are using.

PPL Electric Utilities has 1.3 million customers in 29 counties of eastern and central Pennsylvania.
