BERWICK, Pa.

Britt T. McKinney, vice president-Nuclear Site Operations at the Susquehanna nuclear power plant, has been promoted to senior vice president and chief nuclear officer of PPL Generation, a subsidiary of PPL Corporation (NYSE: PPL).

McKinney, who is a 30-year veteran of the nuclear power industry, has served in his current position since May 2004. McKinney will continue to report to Bryce Shriver, president of PPL Generation, who most recently held the chief nuclear officer post.

"Throughout his career, Britt has distinguished himself as a leader of high-performing, successful organizations," said Shriver. "In just one year at Susquehanna, we have seen significant improvements in the focus on long-term safe and reliable operations."

Shriver noted that PPL Susquehanna broke its electricity production record in 2004 and, earlier this year, plant crews completed a 26-day refueling outage, by far the shortest in the facility's two-decade history.

"We are fortunate to have someone of Britt's experience and dedication serving as our chief nuclear officer," said Shriver.

Before joining PPL in 2003, McKinney was employed at Wolf Creek, a 1,240- megawatt nuclear power plant in Burlington, Kan., for a total of 23 years, serving in a variety of management positions in power plant operations, training, technical support and instrumentation and control before being named site vice president.

He also worked at the Browns Ferry Nuclear Generating Station in Alabama and started his career at the Fort St. Vrain Nuclear Generating Station in Colorado.

McKinney was a licensed senior reactor operator. He has a master of science degree in power engineering from New Mexico State University and bachelor of science degrees in engineering science, business administration and mathematics from Regis College, Denver, Colo.

The Susquehanna plant, located in Luzerne County about seven miles north of Berwick, is owned jointly by PPL Susquehanna LLC and Allegheny Electric Cooperative, Inc. Headquartered in Allentown, Pa., PPL Corporation controls about 12,000 megawatts of generating capacity in the United States, sells energy in key U.S. markets and delivers electricity to nearly 5 million customers in Pennsylvania, the United Kingdom and Latin America.
