PPL's Montour Preserve to Host Pennsylvania Society for Ornithology Annual Meeting
PRNewswire
WASHINGTONVILLE, Pa.

PPL Corporation's Montour Preserve will be the site for the Pennsylvania Society for Ornithology's annual meeting this weekend, May 14-16. Earlier this month, the preserve was listed among 200 recommended birding sites in the state by Audubon Pennsylvania.

Birders from all across Pennsylvania will meet at the preserve's Environmental Education Center for a variety of bird-related activities. Warblers, waterfowl, waders, woodland birds and grassland bird species will be featured, and Saturday and Sunday morning field trips will take advantage of unique habitats in the area. One field trip each morning will be just for beginning birders.

PPL maintains thousands of acres of company-owned land near the Montour power plant and other power plants for recreational and educational use, said Jon D. Beam, PPL naturalist. "Caring for the environment is a responsibility PPL takes very seriously. Our environmental preserves have goals to preserve the land, restore endangered species and habitats, and provide a place for people to learn about and enjoy nature's beauty."

The Pennsylvania Society for Ornithology is dedicated to fostering the study and appreciation of the state's birds and to promoting the conservation of birds and their habitats. Technical sessions at the preserve on Saturday will include information on the new Pennsylvania Breeding Bird Survey and other topics. Program information is available on the society's Web site at www.pabirds.org.

PPL is hosting the event as part of PPL Project Earth, an initiative through which PPL educates the public about energy resources and the environment. For more information, visit www.pplprojectearth.com, call 1-800-354-8383 or write to pplpreserves@pplweb.com.
