ALLENTOWN, Pa.

Ten areas that PPL Corporation owns and maintains are listed among the 200 best bird-viewing spots in Pennsylvania in the new Susquehanna River Birding and Wildlife Trail map and guide issued May 7 by Audubon Pennsylvania.

"We're pleased that PPL's properties are recognized as prime sites for viewing birds and other wildlife," said Robert J. Barkanic, manager- Environmental Management. "It means that our efforts to restore and protect wildlife habitat near our facilities are succeeding."

PPL maintains about 25,000 acres of company-owned land for recreational and educational use, he added, noting that caring for the environment is a responsibility PPL takes very seriously.

"All of our environmental preserves share common goals to preserve the land, restore endangered species and habitats, and provide a place for people to learn about and enjoy nature's beauty," he said.

PPL sites listed in the Audubon Pennsylvania guide are Holtwood Environmental Preserve and several areas in the preserve, including Face Rock Overlook, Pequea Creek Preserve, Pinnacle Overlook/Kelly's Run Natural Area and Shenk's Ferry Wildflower Preserve, all in Lancaster County, and Lock 12 Historic Area/McCall's Ferry Road in York County; the Susquehanna Riverlands environmental preserve and its Council Cup Scenic Overlook in Luzerne County; Montour Preserve's Lake Chillisquaque in Montour County; and Lake Wallenpaupack in Wayne County.
