PPL Corporation (NYSE: PPL) plans to release its consolidated first quarter 2001 earnings results after the stock market closes on the afternoon of Tuesday, April 24.

In conjunction with the release of its first quarter earnings results, the company invites interested parties to listen to the live Internet Webcast of management's meeting with financial analysts in New York at 8 a.m. (EDT) on Wednesday, April 25. That presentation will cover first quarter 2001 earnings, a strategic initiative decision by the company and the company's revised earnings forecasts for 2001 and 2002.

William F. Hecht, PPL chairman, president and chief executive officer, and John R. Biggar, executive vice president and chief financial officer, will conduct the analyst meeting on April 25, which will be available online live, in audio format, on PPL's Internet Web site: http://www.pplweb.com/. The company's annual meeting of shareowners will be held on Friday, April 27, at Lehigh University's Stabler Arena in Bethlehem, Pa., starting at 1:30 p.m.

In 2000, PPL reported the most successful year in its history, with record earnings that were 40 percent higher than in 1999. The company's adjusted earnings of $3.28 per share for 2000 were 75 percent higher than reported in 1998. During 2000, PPL Corporation's common stock price increased by 98 percent, more than twice the pace of the increase in the Dow Jones Utility Average for the same period.
