Pennsylvania operations of PPL Corporation (NYSE: PPL) have not been affected by a large power blackout Thursday (8/14) that spread across parts of the eastern United States and Canada.

"No customers of PPL Electric Utilities were affected by the blackouts in other parts of the country, and PPL generating plants in Pennsylvania continue to operate normally," said Larry De Simone, executive vice president-Supply for PPL Corporation.

PPL's electric delivery system and generating plants in Pennsylvania are part of the PJM Interconnection, which operates the electric delivery system in five states of the mid-Atlantic region. When problems started, PJM isolated automatically from the New York power system grid, De Simone said.

He added that PJM has sufficient generating capability to meet customer demand for electricity in the mid-Atlantic region into Friday (8/15).

PPL Electric Utilities serves 1.3 million customers in eastern and central Pennsylvania.

PPL Corporation, headquartered in Allentown, Pa., controls about 11,500 megawatts of generating capacity in the United States, sells energy in key U.S. markets and delivers electricity to customers in Pennsylvania, the United Kingdom and Latin America.
