BERWICK, Pa.

Unit 2 at the Susquehanna nuclear power plant resumed generating electricity Saturday (6/11). The unit shut down automatically Monday (6/6) after an electrical generator component - a voltage regulator - failed. Plant crews have replaced the regulator and have completed thorough inspections to ensure that the unit's electrical systems are operating properly.

"The component is on the non-nuclear side of the power plant," said Lou Ramos, PPL spokesman. "The unit shut down safely, exactly as it is designed to do under such circumstances."

Unit 1 was not affected and continued to operate at 100 percent power.

The dual-unit Susquehanna plant, located in Luzerne County about seven miles north of Berwick, Pa., is owned jointly by PPL Susquehanna LLC and Allegheny Electric Cooperative Inc. and is operated by PPL Susquehanna.

PPL Corporation (NYSE: PPL), headquartered in Allentown, Pa., controls about 12,000 megawatts of generating capacity in the United States, sells energy in key U.S. markets and delivers electricity to nearly 5 million customers in Pennsylvania, the United Kingdom and Latin America.
