PPL Vice President-Corporate Information Officer to Retire; Successor Named

ALLENTOWN, Pa.

Michael D. Hill, PPL Corporation's vice president-Corporate Information Officer, will retire in June, following a 39-year career.

Hill will be succeeded by Edward T. Novak, who has nearly 30 years of information technology experience. Novak, who joins PPL on Monday (4/5), will report to Lawrence E. De Simone, PPL executive vice president.

"For the past 11 years, Mike has led PPL's Information Services Department, guiding the company through a period of tremendous growth and change in data and telecommunications technology," De Simone said. "His leadership has been invaluable in guiding the company toward the technological infrastructure necessary to sustain operational excellence. We wish him well in his retirement."

Novak comes to PPL from Accenture, a global management consulting and technology services company. At Accenture, he was the lead partner for Strategic Information Technology Effectiveness in the firm's products and government industry sectors. SITE is an Accenture group that helps top management in companies achieve greater business value from information technology.

Before joining Accenture in 1995, Novak had been a partner with Computer Sciences Corporation and chief information officer for Providian Corporation's Direct Response Group. He also has held positions in marketing, business consulting and systems analysis in the information technology industry.

Novak received his Master of Business Administration degree from the Harvard Business School and his bachelor's degree from Bucknell University.

A registered professional engineer in Pennsylvania, Hill began his career at PPL in 1965 as an engineer in Substation Engineering. In 1977, he became manager-Relay & Control Engineering, and in 1982, project manager for the Power Management System Computer Replacement Project. He later served as manager-Bulk Power Engineering and manager-System Operation. He was promoted to his current position in 1993.

Hill holds a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Villanova University. He also has studied at Lehigh University and completed the Power System Engineering Course at the Power Technology Institute and the Public Utility Executives Program at the University of Michigan.
