PPL Electric Utilities Repairing Storm Damage in South Central Pennsylvania
PRNewswire
ALLENTOWN, Pa.

PPL Electric Utilities crews responded immediately and will be working through the night to restore electric service in parts of south central Pennsylvania hit by severe weather Wednesday evening (8/4).

As of 10 p.m., about 19,000 customers were without power, nearly all of them in the Harrisburg area. Outages also have been reported in Cumberland and Lancaster counties.

"Shortly after the storms moved through the area, we sent out all available local crews. We also have arranged to support them with crews that will be arriving from the Lehigh Valley, Sunbury and Bloomsburg," said David G. Cole, Asset Management general manager for PPL Electric Utilities, from the company's storm emergency center near Allentown.

With outage calls still coming in, it is too early to determine at this time when all customers will be back in service, he said.

"We may not know the full extent of the damage until morning, but it's clear that there are pockets of very severe damage from the high winds that went through the area early this evening, and we will go around the clock until we restore service to every customer," Cole added.

PPL Electric Utilities is in contact with the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission and local emergency management agencies to make sure all public safety issues are addressed promptly.

Cole urged customers to stay away from any downed wires they may encounter, and report problems to PPL Electric Utilities' toll-free customer service number, 1-800-342-5775.
